A warm welcome to the KFN, Prof. Dr. Martin Rettenberger!

12. October 2026

We are delighted to welcome our new Director! Since October 1, 2026, he has been leading KFN and has also taken up a professorship at the University of Göttingen. He brings with him a wealth of experience, fresh perspectives, and great enthusiasm for his work.

After studying psychology and criminology and completing his doctorate on criminal risk assessment in sexual offenders, he held several positions, including at the Assessment and Evaluation Unit for Violent and Sexual Offenders (BEST) in Vienna, at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, and as a junior professor of forensic psychology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Since 2015, he has headed the Centre for Criminology (KrimZ) in Wiesbaden.

In addition, he serves as President of the International Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenders (IATSO), spokesperson for the Legal Psychology Section of the German Psychological Society (DGPs), and Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal Sexual Offending: Theory, Research, and Prevention (SOTRAP). As a multi-award-winning scientist and experienced expert witness, he brings extensive expertise in criminology and forensic psychology to the table.

We look forward to a successful future together, exciting new projects, and a great collaboration!
