Yesterday, a ceremony was held at the New Town Hall to mark the 30th anniversary of the Local Prevention Council of Hanover (KPR). During the event, Mayor Belit Onay began by tracing the history of the KPR. In her opening address, Minister of Justice Dr Kathrin Wahlmann then emphasised the importance of prevention, referring to a forthcoming, clear programme aimed at closing loopholes in the criminal law regarding gender-based violence, and also mentioned the findings of our project “Femicides in Germany”.
This was followed by a panel discussion with
▪️ Thomas Hermann, Mayor and Chair of the KPR,
▪️ Dr Axel von der Ohe, Deputy Mayor and Head of Public Order for the State Capital of Hanover,
▪️ Gwendolin von der Osten, Chief Constable of the Hanover Police Department, and
▪️ Susanne Wolter, Managing Director of the Lower Saxony State Prevention Council
on the past, present and future of the KPR.
The anniversary exhibition was then opened; it will be on display in the Bürgersaal until 9 December, featuring a range of fascinating exhibits.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the KPR for the invitation and look forward to continuing our fruitful collaboration!
