Between dissertation projects, police horses, and local crime mysteries

16. October 2026

Following the inaugural seminar in Göttingen last year, we had the pleasure of hosting the two-day doctoral seminar at our institute in Hanover over the past two days, in collaboration with the University of Bern and the University of Göttingen.

The focus was on the participating doctoral researchers’ dissertation projects, which covered a wide range of topics, from sociopolitical engagement and media criminal law to the illegal wildlife trade. In addition to the academic discussions, both days offered plenty of opportunities for personal exchange and networking across institutional and national borders.

The accompanying programme was just as varied: After an introductory session at our institute, we visited the Hanover Police Mounted Unit, where a guided tour offered fascinating insights into its work. The seminar concluded with a crime-themed tour of Hanover, allowing us to discover the city from a different perspective.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for two enriching days filled with valuable insights and stimulating discussions. We are already looking forward to the next edition, which will take place in Bern next year!
