Main theme: ‘Crime and digitalisation – digitalisation and crime’
Digitalisation permeates almost all areas of our lives and offers us many possibilities and opportunities. At the same time, however, it is also one of our greatest social challenges. It opens up new areas, risks and potential for crime and how we deal with it. The internet and virtual worlds create places for criminal activity. Digital technologies are used as a means of committing crimes, but they also serve law enforcement and crime prevention, or in criminological research for modelling criminal behaviour.
We have therefore chosen ‘Crime and Digitalisation – Digitalisation and Crime’ as the main theme of the conference because we want to take different perspectives. The conference aims to discuss new developments at the interface between digitalisation and criminology, to debate emerging challenges and to present successful approaches.

The conference took place from 8 September 2022 to 10 September 2022 at the beautiful Herrenhausen Palace conference centre in Hanover. In addition to professional discussions, there was also time for private conversations with old acquaintances and new friends. The evening event with the presentation of the Beccaria Medals was held at Cavallo, the former royal riding hall.
The conference proceedings for the event can be found here.
The scientific programme of the conference can be found in the programme booklet.
