As part of a project run by the Federal Police Crime Prevention Program (ProPK), police and crime prevention experts are developing a campaign to educate and raise awareness among young people about the causes, consequences, and warning signs of various forms of violence in relationships (physical, psychological, sexual, and digital violence). The campaign will use a video podcast to spread various messages via social media channels, particularly YouTube. In short interview sequences with young people who have been affected by violence and with experts, various topics will be discussed and concrete recommendations for action will be given to those affected.
In collaboration with Leibniz University Hannover, the KFN is responsible for developing and conducting the accompanying scientific research for this prevention campaign. A central concern of the research project is the evaluation of the causal effect of the short video messages. The aim is to investigate whether watching the videos (in the short, medium, and long term) can trigger changes in the recipients’ awareness of the problem and their knowledge of the causes, consequences, and intervention options for intimate partner violence. In addition, the project will examine whether the digital awareness campaign leads to changes in attitudes and behavior, for example, with regard to the use of support services or openness toward friends or family. To this end, an experimental pretest-posttest study with young participants is expected to be conducted in fall 2024.
